The Johnson's
~A family of 4 plus lots of fur babies~
Hi Britt here to tell you a little bit about us! We are the Johnson's, a family of 4. Adam and I started dating back in high school, we survived college together and got engaged in the fall of 2015. We also moved onto our farm site in 2015 and have been updating it to fit our lives since! In the summer of 2017 we said "I do" which started the next journey for us. We had our first born in February of 2021, Miss Riley Jean. Our second born arrived September of 2024, Mr Knox Douglas. We have also had many fur babies along the way, currently we have 3 dogs and 3 house cats.
A Bit About our Farm Journey
We started our adventure in 2015 when we were given the opportunity to move onto our beautiful little farm. The very first thing I convinced Adam to let me add was some layer chickens. Our farm had no existing fencing so I had thought chickens were a good start. In a few years we had renovated the barn and put up some sturdy pasture fencing, and we were ready to add something larger to the farm In 2017 we added two cows: Sue an Angus-Limousine cross and Hazel a purebred Hereford. The next year we got 7 pygmy goats because I had always wanted goats. Spring of 2019 brought our first babies born on our farm, our cows gave us two handsome bull calves. That same spring I gifted Adam with three Myotonic (Fainting) goats for his birthday, we had been talking about getting them for a little while due to their unique trait. These three quickly became favorites on the farm and lead to the decision to focus solely on developing and improving our Myotonics. Their natural friendly personality was the biggest contributor towards this decision we hadn't met any goat breed that was naturally so friendly. After the pygmies had kidded that fall we sold all the pygmy goats except for the only doeling that was born. She was the first doeling ever born on our farm and I just couldn't let her go.
Since then we have continued to strive to breed towards the MGR breed description and producing structurally sound and correct goats. Goats that are true to the breed history of being meat goats that are heavily muscled with good solid legs and feet are our ideal goat when we look for breeding animals. We also put a large focus on temperament in our goats, we focus on good mothering skills as well as friendly, easy to handle animals.
We do not tolerate mean or aggressive behavior in our herd. Yes, there are still occasional herd hierarchy scuffles but goats that show any aggression towards humans are not tolerated in any way and are quickly removed from our breeding program. We also do not tolerate goats that are extremely skittish, we do not expect every goat to be "in our pocket" friendly but we do expect them all to be catchable and handable for basic herd health management.
We want every goat kid that leaves our farm to be set up for the best success at their new herd, whether it be destined to be a breeder, a brush/foraging goat, a meat goat, or a pet. We take great pride in the animals that leave our farm and we are always here for our buyers. If you ever have any questions always feel free to reach out to us we will do our best to help or point you in a direction to someone else who can help if we cannot.
